FULL PRESCRIBING INFORMATION

Active ingredients per teaspoonful (5 mL)

Brompheniramine maleate, 2 mg
Dextromethorphan HBr, 10 mg
Phenylephrine HCl, 5 mg

Purpose

Brompheniramine maleate, Antihistamine
Dextromethorphan HBr, Cough suppressant
Phenylephrine HCl, Nasal decongestant

BPM-DM-PHEN Uses

Temporarily relieves these symptoms due to hay fever:

  • runny nose
  • sneezing
  • itching of the nose or throat
  • itchy, watery eyes
  • temporarily reduces cough associated with the common cold
  • temporarily relieves nasal congestion due to the common cold

Warnings

Do not use if you are now taking a prescription monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) (certain drugs for depression, psychiatric, or emotional conditions, or Parkinson’s disease), or for 2 weeks after stopping the MAOI drug. If you do not know if your prescription drug contains MAOI, ask a doctor or pharmacist before taking this product.

Ask a doctor before use if you have

  • a breathing problem such as emphysema or chronic bronchitis
  • glaucoma
  • difficulty in urination due to enlargement of the prostate gland
  • persistent or chronic cough such as occurs with smoking, asthma, or emphysema, or if cough is accompanied by excessive phlegm (mucus) unless directed by a doctor
  • heart disease
  • high blood pressure
  • thyroid disease
  • diabetes

Ask a doctor or pharmacist before use if you are taking sedatives or tranquilizers

When using this product

  • do not exceed recommended dosage
  • may cause excitability especially in children
  • may cause drowsiness
  • alcohol, sedatives, and tranquilizers may increase the drowsiness effect
  • avoid alcoholic beverages
  • use caution when driving a motor vehicle or operating machinery

Stop use and ask a doctor if

  • symptoms do not improve within 7 days or are accompanied by fever
  • cough persists for more than 1 week, tends to recur, or is accompanied by fever, rash or persistent headache. A persistent cough may be a sign of a serious condition
  • nervousness, dizziness, or sleeplessness occur

If pregnant or breast feeding, ask a health professional before use.

Keep out of reach of children. In case of overdose, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center right away.

Directions

Do not exceed 6 doses in a 24-hour period
Adults and Children 12 years of age and older: 2 teaspoonfuls (10 mL) every 4 hours
Children 6 to under 12 years of age: 1 teaspoonful (5 mL) every 4 hours
Children under 6 years of age: Consult a doctor

BPM-DM-PHEN Other information

Store at 20°C to 25°C (68°F to 77°F), excursions permitted between 15°C and 30°C (between 59°F and 86°F).
